Edgar Roseberry Obituary

Edgar Lee Roseberry, age 93, of Marion passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Kingston Residence of Marion. Ed was born in Marion, Ohio on December 13, 1930 to the late Ralph and Eloise (Moser) Roseberry. He was raised by his father and stepmother, the late Virginia (Thomas) Roseberry. Along with his parents and stepmother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peg Drollinger.

Ed graduated from Harding High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon returning from the service, he graduated from Ashland College and completed graduate level coursework at Ohio State University. It was at Ashland where he met the former Barbara Anne Sautter. They were married on October 24, 1954 at Peace Lutheran Church, Galion, Ohio. Together, Ed and Barbara lovingly raised one son and two daughters, seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Ed was an educator for 28 years serving as teacher and coach at schools in Chesterville, LaRue, Byhalia, and Richwood, and 15 years as Principal in the Marion City Schools of Taft, Edison, and Oak Street. He was a member of the Chesterville Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM for 65 years and also a member of the York Rite Body of Masonic Lodge # 70 in Marion. Ed was a faithful member of the Timothy Lutheran Church, Marion, Ohio where he enjoyed a strong fellowship and devotion with God.

As an avid sports fan, Ed enjoyed watching Ohio State Men’s and Women’s basketball and football. Always a coach, he passed along his insights to his children and grandchildren, supporting them in attendance at many of their sporting and life events.

For 28 years Ed and Barbara were Snowbirds to Imperial Harbor located in Bonita Springs, FL. He cherished the many deep and long-lasting friendships fostered there. He organized shuffleboard leagues, participated in clubhouse events, and enjoyed many card games; again “coaching” all the while.

Ed is survived by a loving family including his wife of 69 years, Barbara Roseberry; a son, Gary (Jacky) Roseberry of Galion, OH, 2 daughters, LeAnn Jones of Marion, OH & Jane (Terry Pearl) Roseberry of Marengo, OH; a sister, JoAnn Borland of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Matthew, Abbi, Katalina, Annalee, & Andy; great grandchildren, Emma, Madden, Knox, Mila, A.J., Celia, Gaby, Harper, & Leighton; step grandchildren, Lori, Susie, Bill, Amy, & Katy; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ed’s family extend their thanks to the staff of Kingston Residence and Capital City Hospice for their patient and loving care especially during the last weeks of his life. Additional thanks to the Good Hope Lutheran Church of Bucyrus for their visits.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the Boyd Funeral Home on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The family will be receiving friends for 1 hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM. There will be a lite lunch offered to friends and family afterwards at Timothy Lutheran Church. A private burial will take place at a later date.
